Carrot media moved into the John Buddle Work Village in 2005. As a web company, the staff needed an office with a reliable internet connection and good technology infrastructure. It was also important for the office to be close to the A1, with good links to the city centre. When they viewed the John Buddle Work Village, the team immediately knew it was the right location for their needs. During their tenancy, they moved offices twice within the village, to accommodate more staff. In July 2009, Carrot Media moved to Newcastle Business Park, after outgrowing its premises at the village.

Laser Ex Laser Ex, a low-cost printer solutions company, started out at the John Buddle Work Village in September 2005. The staff found events such as Connecting Business, run by the village, to be a good opportunity to network, trade ideas, offer advice and generate new business with similar sized companies. Laser Ex has now moved to bigger premises, three times the size of the original village workshop, and the business is continuing to grow.

Fresh Element has enjoyed the flavour of success since becoming one of John Buddle Work Village’s first tenants in 2004. The company was set up initially to offer online ready-made meals and then diversified to outside catering. Both office space and a kitchen to prepare the food were needed and no other venue could match these requirements within their budget. In 2009 Fresh Element was awarded the catering contract at the BALTIC Centre for Contemporary Art and it now runs the rooftop restaurant, Six, and provides catering for all corporate and private events at the venue.

Dial Green, a green business telecoms provider, was the first tenant of Buddle House in January 2007. The location and size of Buddle House was ideal for Dial Green, and provided good quality, self-contained office space for its seven staff members to work comfortably and efficiently. Prior to moving in, Dial Green was temporarily based at the John Buddle Work Village. The team found the moving process between buildings to be very smooth and they praise the accommodating nature of the staff throughout the transition process.

Neuro Partners provide specialist support and rehabilitation services to people with brain injury, neurological and mental conditions. The business was established in 2005 by three directors. They chose John Buddle Work Village as the company’s headquarters, and within five years Neuro Partners expanded to employ over 250 office and field based employees. The staff praised the Work Village’s facilities, including the conference rooms, admin support and a good level of business support, which was particularly useful for Neuro Partners as a start-up company.

Newcastle Marketing Services started as a new business at the Work Village in November 2005. The marketing agency began trading with two members and now employs over 50 people. As the business steadily grew, the team needed to move offices on several occasions to accommodate increasing staff numbers. They found that moving was an easy process, thanks to the flexibility of arrangements at the Work Village. The agency has now moved to its own larger premises in Gosforth where there is more space for further expansion.
